Community Supported Agriculture Membership
Last season, Theodora Farms began a new initiative to address our neighbors’ food insecurity here in Alton. Through a partnership with St. Louis Area Foodbank we distributed certified organic vegetables to 200 households every week at Crisis Food Center and Guardian Angel pantries.
Federal funding freezes have jeopardized this work. However, the staff at Theodora Farms is committed to addressing food insecurity in Alton. We are relaunching our CSA and ask for your support in meeting our community’s needs. As part of our CSA model this season, we are starting our Blessing Box program. Every CSA share we sell, Theodora Farms will match and donate an equivalent share to Crisis Food Center.
Becoming a member of Theodora Farms’ CSA demonstrates a commitment to the health and happiness of you and your family, the vibrance of our local food system, and addressing hunger in the Riverbend area.
Blessing Box Program:
The Blessing Box program is a multi-agency partnership between Theodora Farms, Challenge Unlimited, Soulcial Kitchen, St. Louis Area Foodbank, Food is Love, Crisis Food Center, Madison County, and other local organizations.
This program is the start of a larger local food aggregation and distribution project to increase markets for local farmers and provide healthy, nutritious food to families in need within our community.
One in every seven people in our region face hunger. Putting food on the table for their families often creates a tough choice: A meal or electricity, a meal or medication, a meal or gas for the car.
1 in 5 children are in need of food assistance
53% of families served have to choose between feeding their family or paying utilities
39% have to decide between putting gas in their cars to get to work or buying groceries
We believe that people faced with these difficult realities deserve dignity in the food they feed their families, and we can not do this work without your support. Your donation directly covers the cost of the produce provided to Crisis Food Center and makes this mission possible. Donations can be made when registering for your CSA share, at checkout in the FarmStore, our online store, and during on-farm events.
